Stabilsers for Machine Embroidery on Knits
Since the launch of my new book
'Sewing and Embroidering Knits', I have had a lot of enquiries about the
stabilisers for machine embroidery mentioned in the book. These are now
available direct from me.
There are four different types:-
Sticky water soluble ironable Stiffy
pre-cut stiffy
All four are included in the Stabiliser Starter Pack and they are also available

Stabiliser Starter Pack contains 2m. Sticky, 3m. iron on Stiffy, 3m.
water soluble film + 40 pre - cut Stiffy sheets. A free instruction sheet

Sticky (54 cm. wide) is hooped and the knitting is pressed onto the adhesive
surface, which avoids marks resulting from hooping the knitting. It is the
ideal solution for small to medium size designs

Iron-on Stiffy (21cm. wide) can be ironed onto the knitting using a
low to medium heat so is suitable for all knitted fabrics. It is particularly
suitable for larger designs, and helps to avoid problems such as outlines which
are not in exactly the correct position.

Water soluble film (20 cm wide) is used on top of the knitted fabric
to avoid the embroidered stitches sinking into the knitting and can be used
single or double thickness. It can also be hooped and embroidered to make
appliques to be sewn onto knitted fabrics which are very delicate - or for the
beginner not wanting to embroider on a garment

Stiffy pre-cut sheets (20 cm square) can be used for testing designs and
to make appliques and are also useful for embroidering on T shirts and
sweatshirts (these are the ones used commercially)
